THE FLAGSHIP SERVICE

Why independent artists struggle to find the right level of support?

The music industry has always had a clear management pathway for artists who have already made it. Once you have genuine traction, consistent ticket sales, growing streaming data, real industry interest, managers come to you. They work on commission, typically around 20% of your earnings, in exchange for their time, their relationships and their strategic direction. The model works because it's built on shared risk: the manager only earns when the artist earns.

But that model has a structural problem for artists who need support most. A commission-based manager working with established artists cannot justify the same time and attention for a developing artist generating minimal income. It's not a failure of commitment, it's mathematics. The result is a gap. Artists who are beyond generic courses and online resources, but not yet at the traction point that attracts traditional management, have historically had nowhere to go.

Blinding Talent was built to close that gap. We offer two models, traditional commission-based management for artists who are ready for it, and retainer-based artist development for artists who are building toward it. Both are led by the same person with the same credentials. The difference is the commercial model and where you are in your career.

Led by someone who has been on both sides

Mark Adams spent 28 years operating at the senior level of the UK music and media industry, as Director of Music Programming at Channel 4, as the person who launched Spotify's first ever Streaming Chart (2016) and the Official YouTube Chart (2015), and as a contributor to campaigns for artists including Dua Lipa, Ed Sheeran, Anne Marie, George Ezra and Rag'n'Bone Man. In 2026 he became a certified artist manager through the Music Managers Forum, the UK's leading professional body for artist management.

He founded Blinding Talent on the belief that independent artists deserve access to the same quality of strategic thinking and industry relationships that most acts only encounter after signing to a label.

Career Planning

Where are you going, and what does the path look like? We map your 12-month and 3-year goals, identify the key decisions ahead, and build a framework for making them well - so you keep moving with intention, not simply reacting to what's next.

Who this is for

Artist management works best when:

  • You have music you believe in and a genuine sense of where you want to go, even if the route isn't clear yet.
  • You are ready to invest time as well as money. The artists who get the most from this engagement are the ones who show up fully, implement what we agree and come back with honest questions.
  • You want a long-term working relationship, not a one-off consultation. The value of artist management compounds over time, the second conversation is more useful than the first, and the sixth more useful than the second.
  • You are ready to hear the truth about where you are. Mark will always tell you what he actually thinks, not what you want to hear. That directness is the point.

Not sure whether management or development is right for you? Tell us in your application. We'll be direct about which model suits where you are, and whether the timing is right for either.

Frequently Asked Questions

Artist management is a traditional music industry relationship where a manager oversees all aspects of an artist's career - releases, deals, live strategy, industry introductions and long-term planning - in exchange for a commission, typically around 20% of the artist's income. Artist development is a consultancy-style engagement focused on strategic guidance across brand, releases and audience building, on a retainer basis without commission.

At Blinding Talent we offer both. Traditional commission-based management is for artists who have traction and are ready to scale. Retainer-based artist development is for artists building toward that point who want senior-level strategic guidance without a full management contract.

Both the management and artist development services at Blinding Talent are led by Mark Adams and the Blinding Talent management team. Mark has 28 years of experience at the senior level of the UK music industry, including as Director of Music Programming at Channel 4, where he launched Spotify's first ever Streaming Chart (2016) and the Official YouTube Chart (2015). In 2026 he became a certified artist manager through the Music Managers Forum, the UK's leading professional body for artist management. For certain engagements, particularly at the senior or strategic level, artists work directly with Mark. We are clear about the structure of every engagement from the first conversation.

The simplest way to think about it: if you are generating consistent income from music and have genuine audience momentum; ticket sales, growing streaming data, real industry interest, the management conversation is the right one. If you are building toward that point and want senior-level strategic guidance to get there faster, artist development is where to start. Both routes begin with the same application.

We review every application personally and we'll be direct about which engagement makes sense, and whether the timing is right for either.

The Music Managers Forum is the UK's leading professional body for artist management. MMF certification covers the full breadth of professional management practice, contracts, royalties, touring economics, publishing, sync licensing, mental health and long-term career strategy.

Mark Adams became a certified artist manager through the MMF in 2026. He is one of a small number of people in the UK to hold both senior broadcasting credentials - as Director of Music Programming at Channel 4 - and a formal artist management qualification. The certification reflects the depth and professional grounding he brings to every management and development engagement at Blinding Talent.

The door is open

We work with a deliberately small number of artists at any one time. Every engagement, whether artist management or development, starts with the same conversation. Tell us about your music and your ambitions, and we'll be honest about whether we think we can help and which model makes sense.
